Grants of up to $10,000 to USA nonprofit organizations, city and county departments and agencies, and state and federal agencies that are working locally on projects related to active transportation, bicycling, and community development. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application

Important change to Fall 2019 Grant Cycle: As part of the Foundation's efforts to get more children and youth on bikes, this grant cycle is dedicated to supporting bike park and pump track projects only. If your project is for another type of bicycle infrastructure, such as a multi-use trail, bike path, mountain bike trail, protected bike lane or BMX facility, or for bike parking or storage, please wait and submit during the next grant round. The Foundation will post the 2020 schedule of grant cycles in October 2019.

PeopleForBikes focuses most grant funds on bicycle infrastructure projects such as:
- Bike paths, lanes, trails, and bridges
- Mountain bike facilities
- Bike parks and pump tracks
- BMX facilities
- End-of-trip facilities such as bike racks, bike parking, bike repair stations and bike storage

Some advocacy projects will be considered, such as:
- Programs that transform city streets, such as Ciclovías or Open Streets Days
- Campaigns to increase the investment in bicycle infrastructure

PeopleForBikes will fund engineering and design work, construction costs including materials, labor, and equipment rental, and reasonable volunteer support costs. For advocacy projects, staffing may be funded if it is directly related to accomplishing the goals of the initiative.

The PeopleForBike (PFB) Community Grant Program application has two parts:

1. Letter of Interest: Interested applicants should submit an online letter of interest (LOI) through the PFB website. LOIs will include basic information about the applying organization and contact person, as well as an overview of the project proposed for funding.

2. Full Application: PFB will request a full project application from a short list of qualified applicants. Invited organizations will receive access to the online application.

The Foundation does not accept emailed, mailed or faxed applications. All applicants must utilize the online grant application system.

PeopleForBike (PFB) does not require a specific percentage match, but leverage and funding partnerships are looked at very carefully. Grant requests in which funding would amount to 50% or more of the project budget will not be considered.
